A Squares game is a popular chance-based pool played during sporting events—especially football and the Super Bowl. Participants claim grid squares for a chance to win cash or prizes based on the score. It adds another layer of fun to a watch party, with players cheering for the score digits that match their squares at the end of each configured event.

The Squares Game supports NFL and college football, NBA, WNBA, men's and women's college basketball, the UFL, and the AFL (Australian Football League).

How the game works

  1. 1. The grid: A standard 10 × 10 grid creates 100 total squares.
  2. 2. Team axes: One team is assigned to the top horizontal axis and the other to the left vertical axis.
  3. 3. Selecting squares: Before the game starts, players can choose empty squares manually or use Quick Pick.
  4. 4. Assigning numbers: When the game starts, The Squares Game automatically draws the numbers 0 through 9 in random order and assigns them to each row and column.
  5. 5. Winning: At the end of each configured event, the last digit of each team's score identifies the winning intersection on the grid. The Squares Game automatically calculates the winners.

That is why The Squares Game exists. It is an online Squares game app built so managers can have fun too—not just run the paperwork while everyone else watches the game.

Easy grid setup from the game schedule

The challenge

Creating a grid should not require the manager to type every team name, game time, and matchup detail by hand.

How The Squares Game helps

Search upcoming games by sport, league, and date, then select the matchup. The Squares Game fills in the teams and scheduled game details so the manager can focus on squares, payouts, and invitations.

Create and manage multiple grids

The challenge

Managers running several games need one place to organize each grid without losing track of what is active or complete.

How The Squares Game helps

The full version lets managers create and manage multiple grids from one dashboard, with grid credits determining how many new games they can run.

Full version

Flexible grid, pricing, and payout controls

The challenge

Different groups need different player limits, square prices, payout percentages, and prize splits.

How The Squares Game helps

The full version lets managers configure maximum squares per player, price per square, total payout percentage, and the payout assigned to each winning event—for example, 10% for Q1, Q2, and Q3 and 60% for Q4.

Auto Expand beyond 100 squares

The challenge

A traditional 10 × 10 grid runs out of room after 100 squares, limiting larger groups and successful fundraisers.

How The Squares Game helps

When enabled, Auto Expand can open another 100 squares when the current round fills, letting more players join without forcing the manager to create and reconcile a separate game.

Fundraisers and large watch parties aren’t limited to 100 entries. More people can join the fun, increasing participation and giving fundraisers greater earning potential.

Add players and collect payments

Included free

Share a free game with a public link

The challenge

A casual group should be able to join without accounts, payment setup, or a formal invitation process.

How The Squares Game helps

In the free version, players open one public link, enter a name, and choose squares. Names and winners are real; the $10 square value, payment status, ledger, and payouts are simulated.

Full version

Multiple ways to add players

The challenge

Every group communicates differently, so relying on one invitation or registration method can make it harder to fill a grid.

How The Squares Game helps

Managers can assign squares directly, invite players through The Squares Game to select their own squares, or share the registration link through email, text, WhatsApp, or another messaging app so players can register themselves.

Full version

Easier ways for players to pay

The challenge

One of the biggest challenges in managing a Squares game is collecting payments and matching them to the right players.

How The Squares Game helps

Managers can accept card payments through Stripe or save instructions for Venmo, Zelle, PayPal, Cash App, and other direct payment methods, so players see the available options and exactly how to pay.

You do not need to form a corporation or LLC to apply for Stripe. Stripe supports individual and sole-proprietor accounts in the United States and Canada; in the U.S., applicants without an EIN can use an SSN or ITIN. Stripe guides the manager through secure setup and verifies eligibility.

Integrated player payment ledger

The challenge

Across dozens of players and hundreds of squares, it quickly becomes difficult to remember who paid, how they paid, and which squares a payment covered.

How The Squares Game helps

In the full version, the integrated ledger lets the manager record real payment methods and amounts, then quickly see who owes, who reported a payment, who is confirmed paid, and which squares each payment covers. The free version provides a clearly simulated ledger for experiencing the workflow.

Included free

Join after the game starts

The challenge

A player may want to join the fun after the game starts even though future winning events—such as Q2—have not begun.

How The Squares Game helps

When enabled, new and returning players can join after play begins and participate in the remaining eligible events without changing events that have already started.

A late arrival doesn’t have to miss the entire game. Friends can keep joining the fun—and fundraisers can keep growing—while completed periods remain protected.

Remove unpaid squares when a configured event starts

The challenge

Players may reserve squares and never pay, or they may decide not to accept squares assigned by the manager. Without a clear policy, those unpaid reservations can remain on the board and participate in prizes.

How The Squares Game helps

When enabled, unpaid squares that were not reported or confirmed as paid stop participating as each configured event starts. Paid and reported-paid squares stay in the game for that event, and players can pay to rejoin the remaining game.

Managers and fundraisers can reserve the usual number of squares for regular players ahead of time. Players who want them can pay, while unclaimed reservations are automatically removed—making the grid easier to fill without creating extra cleanup.

Simulated payment and winner tracking

The challenge

It is difficult to understand the value of an integrated ledger and payout workflow without seeing them operate during a complete game.

How The Squares Game helps

The free version demonstrates payment status, a $10-per-square ledger, winner identification, and payout tracking without collecting or transferring real money.

Included free

Live scoreboard and play-by-play

The challenge

Managers and players should not have to switch between a sports app and the Squares grid to understand what is happening.

How The Squares Game helps

The Squares Game automatically brings the live score and play-by-play feed into the grid, so everyone can follow recent plays, the game clock, and the currently winning squares in one place.

Included free

Automatic winner identification

The challenge

Managers should not have to calculate score digits, locate the winning square, and match it to a player after every scoring period.

How The Squares Game helps

The Squares Game uses the live score to identify the winning square at each configured event and displays the real player name entered for that square.

Included free

Automatic game-start detection and number draws

The challenge

Watching the clock and manually drawing a new set of numbers at exactly the right moment takes the manager away from the game.

How The Squares Game helps

Using the live feed, The Squares Game detects when the game or a configured event starts and randomly assigns digits 0 through 9 to both team axes. Each number set is drawn only when its event begins—for example, Q2 numbers are drawn when Q2 starts.

Full version

Automatic winner calculation and payout tracking

The challenge

Finding the winner, calculating the prize, and remembering whether it was paid can turn every configured event into another manual reconciliation task.

How The Squares Game helps

When a configured event ends, The Squares Game matches the score digits to the winning square, identifies the player and preferred payout method, calculates the prize from the eligible amount and configured payout percentage, and keeps it visible until the manager records it as paid.

The free version identifies real winner names, but payout amounts and payout tracking remain simulated. Real payout settlement belongs to the full version.

Help wherever you need it

Included free

Help Mode on every screen

The challenge

Managers and players often need guidance at the exact moment they encounter an unfamiliar option or workflow.

How The Squares Game helps

Help Mode explains buttons, checkboxes, list options, and other actionable controls directly on each screen, so people can learn what an option does without leaving their work or searching separate instructions.

Run your game confidently, even if it’s your first time. In-context guidance helps managers and players find answers quickly, reducing questions, mistakes, and interruptions.
